‘The Book of Boba Fett’ star opens up about showing plot details

Disney is taking a bit of a weird turn when it comes to future plans for its flagship Star Wars series, The Mandalorian. This winter will take its place The Book of Boba Fett, a spin-off focused on the previously more famous Mandalorian of the universe, which appeared in a key role in season 2 of Mando.

Mandalorian season 3 won’t be filming until later than usual, in part because Pedro Pascal now also has a Last of Us series to star in HBO, and it looks set to be out in late 2022. But now, the Boba Fett star , the man himself, Temuera Morrison, is talking about what we should expect from the series, and that it will not be simply a continuation of the arc we saw in The Mandalorian, but an exploration of the past and how we got here (via Rotten tomatoes):

“Well, we can’t say too much, but let’s look at his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back. Someone pointed out that he has been stuck in this one place, and now is the time to go back in time, see his journey and find out more about him. “

I’m not sure if Morrison meant “Return of the Jedi” instead of “The Empire Strikes Back”, given that Jedi is where Boba Fett is eaten by the Sarlaac, a situation he clearly escaped from, but not before losing his iconic armor. But at least part of the series will be a flashback to what he’s been up to ever since. He clearly still had his ship, the Slave I, although we do see him turn into this kind of wandering warrior using Tusken Raider weapons.

The gap between Return of the Jedi and The Mandalorian is 5 years, so that’s the blank we have to fill in. I’m curious what Fett would be doing during that time. Presumably trying to find his armor, but we know that didn’t happen until season 2 of The Mandalorian. Did you try to find Luke or Han to get revenge for their near death? I mean, I don’t think we’ll see aged CGI versions of any of them in the series, so I imagine that won’t be what will be covered.

If Morrison really meant “Empire”, maybe there are some other things that may be covered between Empire and Jedi that we need to know about, since we know that Fett caught Han and transported him to Jabba, but I mean, I guess other events. It could have happened in the meantime while Leia and Luke were planning Han’s release.

Regardless, obviously this will be a key series to watch. I look forward to their stories, past or present, even if I have to wait a long time for Command himself to return.
