‘The Umbrella Academy’ season 3 could be destined for Netflix greatness

Season three of The Umbrella Academy It may not premiere until later this year (the cast and crew are currently in the middle of filming). But that doesn’t stop the Umbrella running train, as the episode titles for the third season they were released (and supposedly a death of the main character was mocked) and the Umbrella The fan community went wild.

You know how popular The Umbrella Academy is when all the show has to do is launch the titles of some upcoming episodes to send to fans looking for answers and clues about the new season. But given all the new viral shows and movies that have been released on Netflix in the last two years, I feel like people might have forgotten how to dominate the second season of The Umbrella Academy It was in 2020.

And if season three can even come close to matching the success of season two, which I imagine will happen, considering the show’s fanbase has only grown since fall 2020, then The Umbrella Academy It could very well become the most popular original series in Netflix’s arsenal.

Just to serve as a reminder, I’d like to recap how fruitful the show’s run was in 2020, the first year of Netflix’s Top 10 feature. Thanks to this daily list, I have been able to use a point-based system which ranks the popularity of all Netflix shows. And in 2020, a year that included Tiger King, Ozark, The Queen’s Gambit Y Cobra KaiThe Umbrella Academy easily had one of the best displays.

Things started with a 15-day streak to the top of the daily charts in August 2020. At the time, that did The Umbrella Academy just the second show on Netflix to hit such a streak. To date, only four other programs have managed to reach that number: Ratched (15 days), The Queen’s Gambit (22 days), King tiger (27 days), and Ginny and Georgia (29 days).

Between July and September 2020, The Umbrella Academy it would spend 43 consecutive days on the Top 10 charts. At the time, that was the fifth best streak in history, and today it ranks as the thirteenth best. But during those 43 days, The Umbrella Academy averaged many more points per day than programs with longer streaks like iCarly, Schitt’s Creek Y Avatar, the last airbender.

In October 2020, when his Top 10 career ended, The Umbrella Academy catapulted to fourth place in the all-time power rankings. And to this day, the superhero show owns the seventh best season in a single season of any Netflix original since the start of the top 10 list:

  1. The Queen’s Gambit – 621 points
  2. Bridgerton – 508 points
  3. Ginny and Georgia – 465 points
  4. Tiger King – 387 points
  5. Ozark – 377 points
  6. Outer Banks – 356 points
  7. The Umbrella Academy – 320 points
  8. Cobra Kai – 300 points
  9. Love is blind – 299 points
  10. Virgin River – 269 points

Netflix has only grown its subscriber base since the premiere of season two, so I expect season three of The Umbrella Academy to shoot even higher in the Top 10 power rankings of all time. The show may never make it to the number one spot, but it could come very close.
